Education

Education and economic opportunities are inextricably intertwined, and we must support and nurture both in order for our society to function to its full potential. 

As the child of two public school teachers, I am well aware of how important education is to our community’s future, especially early childhood education.   

In Luzerne County, schools vary greatly in their rating, and children coming out of our county are not currently granted the same opportunity as children coming out of other, higher-rated districts. In order to begin to create a more equal economic opportunity for all, it must begin with childhood education.  As we saw in the decision from the Commonwealth Court, Pennsylvania does not currently fund its school districts in a constitutional way.
On Luzerne County Council, I will reach out to our state legislators and ensure they are working towards reworking the current unconstitutional funding system, and make sure that Luzerne County schools are getting their fair share.  I will support curriculums that teach our children the life skills and information they will need for their future.

Luzerne County Community College is one of the crown jewels of our county. On County Council, I will work to ensure that it is properly funded, and look for ways to lower the financial burden on our families and its students.

When our school districts thrive, it brings better paying jobs to the area, and raises the property values in the community.

I will fight for the students of Luzerne County and their future.
